Cambodia’s Female Demining Teams Clear Their Country of War’s Remnants

More than 60,000 people have been killed by land mines in Cambodia. But all-female demining teams are hard at work clearing the land of these deadly explosives.

Clearing Cambodia of its deadly mines was long considered a man’s job, but now, the women of Cambodia are entering the demining field to help prevent further tragedies. The mines were laid by successive governments during 30 years of war, primarily along the border with Thailand, to stop the return of the brutal Khmer Rouge regime, which had committed genocide on its own people. The Halo Trust recruits all-female demining teams to clear the land and make it safe again.
