Cannon Michael is a sixth-generation California farmer and president of his family’s farm, Bowles Farming Company. The farm uses organic and conventional practices to grow tomatoes and other food and fiber crops primarily on drip irrigation powered by solar energy. Cannon lives on the farm with his wife and three sons. He is active in local and state water leadership and education. He serves on the board of the Water Education Foundation.

Media reports that California doesn’t understand how much water it has are not true, says farmer Cannon Michael. While there are gaps in understanding, detailed information about reservoirs and river flows can be easily accessed online.
Water set aside for environmental purposes has grown. So why haven’t the benefits grown, too?
