Mara Johnson-Groh is a freelance science writer and photographer. Her work, discussing everything under the sun and even things beyond it, has been featured in publications such as Scientific American, Backpacker, Muse and Astronomy. Her favorite word for snow is the Inuinnaqtun term “apijuq” – meaning covered in snow.
